If you’re hesitant to introduce slime to your household, I’m here to tell you it will be okay!
Set some play area boundaries, maybe dedicate an apron to the slime creations, and watch the magic unfold. If you’re an adult with no children in the house and have never made slime before, give this a try!
The great news is homemade slime washes easily. When mixed and activated thoroughly, it won’t stick to hands or the table, and even the bowl comes completely clean.
Since this is an essential oil slime DIY, consider adding any of the KidScents Blends for both aroma and purpose. Slime makes a great fidget toy and provides reusable stimulation for hours. Depending on which essential oils are chosen, customize the slime to promote relaxation, concentration, feelings of confidence, or whatever aroma makes your heart happy.
Although this particular recipe is directly from Young Living, there is no problem switching out the food dye for natural alternatives.
Pro Tip 1: Add shaving foam to make fluffy slime.
DIRECTIONS:
1. Add ½ cup of white school glue to a mixing bowl.
2. Add your choice of optional coloring or glitter now if you’re working with them.
3. Mix in ½ tsp baking soda until smooth. Just a pinch is enough. This will create fun, poppable air bubbles and build structure inside the slime.
4. This is when you’ll add shaving foam if you want fluffy slime. Add about equal parts to the glue. You can also add a few drops of Essential Oils directly to the mixture now, but I also have another way below. Please do not use Lemon Essential Oil in the slime, as it will cause the mixture to melt and break down.
5. Start by adding only 1 tablespoon of contact solution and mix. This begins to activate the slime! The glue mixture will start to become stringy as it hardens to slowly form a ball. Mix it well, then add a little more contact solution. Mix that again, and add another tablespoon. Continue this slowly, mixing thoroughly, until your slime is no longer sticky. Adding too much at once will over-activate your slime, making it hard or rubbery.
6. Pick up the mixture and knead it with your hands against the table until it becomes smooth. Don’t worry, it will work! If it is still sticking to your hands, continue adding contact solution until it is smooth and no longer sticking to anything.
Pro Tip 2: If you’ve slowly added a bit too much activator, try mixing in some lotion to soften your slime and add back some stretch.
6. Add 1-4 drops of Essential Oil to your hands and mix with the slime until it’s combined. Again, avoid Lemon Essential Oil here.
7. Get playing! Set out a baking sheet for a slime boundary or parchment paper to keep things from getting too messy if needed. Remember, this is basically just glue and it will wash off of nearly anything with some hot water. Please be mindful of dye stains if you choose to use them.
Pro Tip 3: DO use Lemon Essential Oil as a remedy if any slime becomes stuck in hair.
